Someone is using my email address to send viagra adds?

I’m trying to notify people on my email list that my account has been compromised. Yahoo cut me off saying I may be spreading spam. How do I override and contact my email list?

Answer:

Sounds like your E-mail account has been compromised, or you picked up a virus.
Immediately have your computer checked for a ‘bug’ or ‘bugs.’ If you have the proper programs, do the scans yourself, if not you need to take your computer to some one who can.
Once it is clean of pests, install a firewall and an anti-virus program if you do not have one yet.
I strongly recommend a program for malware and adware also.
After you finish this, then you need to contact service representative and explain you took care of the problem, and get things straightened out.

Once you can get back into your account, then go in and change your password, using a good strong one.
Also, check your account information and make sure no information was changed, if it was change it back immediately.
Then, you will have to inform your contacts that it was not you sending that mail, but they need to check their computers in case they were also infected.

My brother says I am sending him Viagra ads, but I am not. I checked Norton virua and it’s clean?

Answer:

WHY I’M GETTING OFFERS FOR VIAGRA FROM MY OWN EMAIL ADDRESS?

I keep getting offers for viagra and other medicine from my own email address why?and how ?I have never send them and what can i do about it?

Answer:

Although there is a possibility you were ‘hacked’, it is far more likely that your address was compromised by one of the powerful spam bot networks. They have the ability to crack passwords, especially weak ones. They can also ‘spoof’ the addresses in the From: area to make it more likely that they will be opened. Spammers have programs just to ‘harvest’ e-mail addresses. Your account has been seriously compromised, and more of this type of letter will keep happening. It may not even be your own computer that was infected. Nonetheless, act promptly! This is a very common problem seen here on Answers several times daily. You have been hacked, plain and simple – it’s a bad worm/trojan, not a virus and it’s on your computer.

You need to download and run a couple of reliable anti-malware programs such as Malwarebytes Anti-Malware at http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php
and/or Spybot Search and Destroy at http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,22262-order,4-page,1/description.html
and/or Windows Defender at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/defender/default-mspx

Of course, a thorough scan with anti-virus and a couple of good anti-spyware programs in Safe Mode is an obvious suggestion. Hit F8 repeatedly when the screen first lights up, then choose Safe Mode, using the arrow keys and Enter to get there. Run each full scan in Safe Mode, re-booting into Safe Mode after each scan.

Carefully read the technical advice given below – they are the best, most-detailed I have ever read. Read them BEFORE you set up a new safe account! Yes, you will probably chose to open a new account, but transferring your contacts and saved mail is time-consuming.

Changing your password is NOT sufficient, even though that is Yahoo’s advice! Use a very strong password (letters, capitals, punctuation, symbols – the longer the better. Start with a sentence, and make substitutions.) Change your ‘Secret’ Questions and Answers too – ones that nobody could guess – Yahoo even allows you to invent your own questions. Change and add all-new alternate e-mail addresses too.

AFTER you have read the advice, and copied your Contacts list, you could use a BRAND NEW account to contact everyone with your new address, including your name and ‘new address’, as well as an apology to them. Urge ALL of them to use BCC: and delete all addresses when forwarding mail too! Warn them not to click ANY links in mail from you until further notice!

Consider opening another ALTERNATE account in Yahoo mail – you will not lose anything (contacts, address list, saved mail, folders.) Send an email to all your contacts with the new email address. If someone sends mail to the old e-mail address, it will go to the same Inbox so you don’t lose any messages. Click the link below to get an extra email address for your existing account. Use it just as you would for your primary address (which of course you can still use). You can send and receive email from either address from the same Inbox in the drop-down arrow menu to the right of the From: section. If you want to make your secondary email address as your primary address, you can click on Options > Mail Options > Account Information > Password again. Once in your account you will see E-mail Information. Click to designate which one you want as your primary, then click SAVE.

Why are spam emails for viagra being sent from my email address to my contacts?

I am sick and tired of spam emails being sent from my Yahoo account. I’m thinking of removing my account as everyone in my contact list has been receiving this junk. I have run spyware and antivirus software and nothing has helped. My friends are all frustrated as they keep getting junk from me. It also wipes out my sent folder – can someone PLEASE HELP ME???

Answer:

I got one of those myself…..=((

Per Yahoo this is being caused by a virus. It spreads out through your email account and it sends spam emails to the contacts that are in your address book and to yourself if your address is in your contact list without your knowledge.

There are many viruses in existence today (often called “worms”), that propagate when an email attachment containing the virus is sent to an email address found in an infected user’s computer (e.g., address book, local files, etc.).

To stop the sending out of spam please change your Yahoo! password.
The users that have encountered this before stopped the sending out of spam after changing their Yahoo! password.

You can use this link to change your password.

http://edit.yahoo.com/config/change_pw

you will be asked to enter your current password once and your new password twice. click “Save”.

You might want to run a virus scan on your computer and it sometimes helps to run a virus scan in the SAFE MODE. This can be accomplished by restarting your computer and slowly clicking on the F8 button on your keyboard while the computer is starting up

You might also want to change your secret question/answer.

To change or update your secret question and answer you can use the form at http://help.yahoo.com/l/us/yahoo/acct/in…

NOTE; It is helpful if you sign out of your email account before you shut you computer off AND during the day when you are going to be away for any length of time.

I am getting more and more e-mails for Viagra from someone. How do you stop them?

I am real dumb when it comes to computers so I need some help on stopping unwanted e-mails. Also can I get a new e-mail?

Answer:

1: Yahoo has a spamguard filter, but only if multiple users report an address as spam will it be treated as such by the filter.

You have a personal list for blocking addresses in spam options. Anything you mark as spam in Mail classic will be added to that list, in New Yahoo mail adding addresses to the list has to be done manually. If you ever receive anything from those addresses in the future, it will be deleted automatically, you won’t even notice when you got some more crap from them. One problem though: the list of blocked addresses is limited to 500 and spammers often change their address. So you must sometimes delete some of the older blocked addresses to make room for new ones.

Go to this link where everything is explained in detail:

http://help.yahoo.com/us/tutorials/mail/mail/spamguard1.html

#2: The Federal Trade Commission (www.ftc.gov) is supposed to help you eliminate spam mails. Forward spam to: spam@uce.gov, in the subject line enter something like “unsubscribe link results in more spam”, “unwanted spam message”, “no unsubscribe link” or something similar.

When the FTC gets your mail, they will look into the matter and when they find out who the spamming source is, they will take legal actions.

#3: Check Iconix, once it is installed, it can easily identify whether a mail is Spam or comes from a trusted site, thus helping you to decide whether to open a mail or not. Mail services supported so far:

Yahoo!Mail
AT&T Yahoo! Mail
Gmail
Earthlink
AOL Webmail
MSN Hotmail
Windows Live Hotmail
Outlook 2003
Outlook Express 6.0
AIM Webmail

Not supported are other mail services and also not MAC and Linux.

#4: Check Mailwasher, it helps to eliminate spam from your inbox…

Set up your email account(s) in MailWasher and hit the “Check Mail” button. It then downloads all new message headers and displays message details alongside each one (priority, subject, from, to, etc.). Any email that MailWasher considers to be spam is highlighted for easy sorting.

Two checkboxes are located next to each message header: “Delete” and “Bounce”. If you click “Delete” the email will be marked for deletion, click “Bounce” and the mail will be marked for bouncing – a fake “address not found” email will be sent to the sender. Once you have decided what to bounce and delete, click “Process Mail” to get it done and your mail client launched for downloading all accepted emails.

MailWasher has a “blacklist” and a “friends list” to enter good and bad email addresses. Addresses in the blacklist are marked for deletion, and addresses in the friends list will be marked as okay. Filters can be set to increase MailWasher’s effectiveness. You can have email addressed to “undisclosed recipients” automatically deleted and bounced for example.

Note: the program is free but limited to one email account, and doesn’t include Hotmail support. MW Pro supports multiple mail accounts.
